Diagnostics & Testing

Accurate diagnosis is an important part of providing the right care for your pet. At Charlestown Vet Clinic, we use a combination of clinical experience, careful examination, and modern diagnostic tools to help us understand what’s happening with your pet’s health and move confidently toward treatment.

When pets are unwell, they can’t always tell us where it hurts or what feels wrong. Diagnostic testing allows us to gather valuable information, often identifying concerns earlier and reducing uncertainty. Our approach is always thoughtful and measured, ensuring tests are recommended only when they’re genuinely helpful to your pet’s care.

In-House Pathology

We offer in-house pathology testing, allowing us to quickly assess blood, urine, and other samples. For more complex cases, we work closely with external pathology laboratories, giving us access to specialist pathologists and additional support when needed. This combination helps us deliver timely and reliable results.

Radiography (X-rays)

Our clinic is equipped with modern digital X-ray facilities. Radiography is commonly used to assess bones, joints, lungs, and internal organs, and plays an important role in diagnosing injuries, illness, and long-term conditions.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound is a valuable, non-invasive diagnostic tool that allows us to examine internal organs in real time. We regularly use ultrasound for abdominal and cardiac assessments, helping us gain a clearer picture of your pet’s internal health without discomfort.

Endoscopy

Endoscopy uses specialised fibre optic equipment to examine the gastrointestinal and respiratory tracts. In many cases, this allows us to investigate concerns and reach a diagnosis without the need for more invasive surgery.

Electrocardiography (ECG)

ECG testing helps us assess heart rhythm and function. This can be particularly useful when investigating heart disease or monitoring pets with known cardiac conditions.

Diagnostics and testing are about supporting informed decisions and providing clarity during stressful times. Our team will always explain recommended tests, discuss results in clear language, and guide you through the next steps with care and transparency.
